The Centre of Excellence (COE) for Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) on Aruba kindly asks to spread the word on two events.



 EVENTS:

(1)  Arno Boersma from COE presents island insights from a knowledge perspective in Washington D.C. (International Finance Corporation) - 16 May 2019

(2)  Opportunity to Partner on Caribbean Climate and Disaster Resilience - Understanding Risk Caribbean in Barbados - 27 May - 1 Jun 2019

COE for SIDS Aruba is supporting the organizers of the URCaribbean conference by sharing the available partnership opportunities to support the Understanding Risk Caribbean Conference – a regional forum aimed at sharing the most current disaster risk information with emphasis on identifying, assessing and reducing disaster risk in the region – co-led by the World Bank, the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency, and the European Union.

#URCaribbean is a week-long event in Barbados (May 27 - June 1) that will convene public and private actors both regionally and globally, that are engaged in risk management solutions, innovative technology services, and financial instruments in the field of disaster risk management aimed at building resilience.

Core themes include: Coastal Protection | Physical and Fiscal Resilience | Risk Analytics | Urban Resilience | Disruptive Technology |Hydromet Services | Community Engagement.
Registration is free and open.

1st International Island Conference

ORANJESTAD, Aruba — From 26th to 29th March 2019, GLISPA Member the Centre of Excellence for SIDS held the 1st International Island Conference with a focus on Small Island States (SIS) and Subnational Island Jurisdictions (SNIJs). Co-organized with the University of Aruba and the University of Prince Edward Island, the Centre of Excellence for SIDS engaged in "Sharing Stories of Island Life, Governance and Global Engagement" organized by the University of Aruba, the University of Prince Edward Island and the Centre of Excellence for SIDS.
