Island Communications Toolkit
The Islands Communications Toolkit demonstrates how communications, education and public awareness strategies can be used to stimulate behavior change, inspire leadership or create global awareness of climate change, biodiversity conservation and sustainable development issues using examples from islands for islands. The Toolkit aims to:
- Promote documentation and sharing of best practices between small island states that create awareness and stimulate positive changes of behavior in SIDS by nurturing a communications community of practice;
- Document successful strategies and actions that have inspired leadership to conserve biodiversity and sustainable livelihoods in islands;
- Promote implementation of effective communication strategies on island issues by conveying information, knowledge, values and goals for the purpose of training, exchanging experience, sharing know-how and technology;
- Establish a web-based open educational resource that recognizes and promote SIDS use of effective communications to mitigate the impacts of climate change and conserve biodiversity.
The Island Communication Toolkit supports the implementation of Convention on Biological Diversity article 13 on communication, education and public awareness and Decisions VIII/6 and IX/32. It also responds to CBD COP decisions related to the Island Program of Work including Decision IX/21.
