Promoting action to build resilient and sustainable island communities

Linking Development Dialogue

Priority:  Linking conservation and sustainable livelihoods to development dialogue

Many islands are demonstrating early leadership in building more sustainable economies. Their small and isolated populations often make transition to green technology more urgent and feasible.  Limited land areas and vast ocean territories make them critical guardians of global ocean resources and stewards of the ‘blue’ economy.  Finally, the rich diversity of island communities, economies and natural resources make them ideal testing grounds for innovative approaches and the world’s transition to a new green and blue economy.

The Partnership works to promote and catalyze island leadership in advancing the green and blue economy, identifying early leaders and successes and facilitating the exchange of experiences through a range of processes which lead up to the review of the Millennium Development Goals in 2015.
