“While we live on land, we depend on the ocean to survive. We cannot live on land, without a healthy ocean.” H.E. Tommy E. Remengesau Jr. President of Palau and GLISPA Leader, stated during the high level panel “Solutions for Climate Compatible Development in the Context of Islands and Coastal Communities” coordinated by GLISPA and Rare as part of TARA Expedition’s Pacific and Islands Day.

The Day highlighted bright spots and partnerships at the TARA Oceans Pavilion on the River Seine in Paris helping to build the momentum toward a global call for leadership to preserve the health and function of islands, oceans and coastal systems - #OceansForClimate.

During the panel Rare’s CEO Brett Jenks shared bright spots from Indonesia that have led to community leaders being empowered and inspired to manage the sustainability of ecological systems. The panel profiled and widely share innovative and replicable solutions, which optimize adaptation, mitigation, and sustainable development goals.

In his concluding remarks, President Remengesau championed his country as a model for climate-compatible development.
