UNFCCC COP 17 - Exploring Debt for Adaptation Swaps Dinner

Date: 5 December 2011
Location: Durban, South Africa
Host: Grenada, as chair of AOSIS, and Seychelles
Strategic Priority: Ecosystem-based adaptation and mitigation
The Global Islands Partnership (GLISPA) facilitated this dinner to bring together Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and donor governments to discuss the nascent Global SIDS Debt for Adaptation concept. The 18 attendees included representatives from the Governments of Australia, Germany, the United States, Maldives, and Belize as well as the European Commission. The discussion was lively, informative and resulted in agreement to continue exploring the concept during future events and bi-lateral channels, with the aspiration of officially rolling out the concept with commitments and proof of concept at the upcoming Rio+20 meeting in June 2012.
